Step 1. Disconnect the 5/8"
black rubber hose from the factory box that sets
directly in front of the throttle body that connects
to the PVC valve. Leave the hose in place on the
engine; you will tie back into it later.
Step 2. Loosen the large hose
clamps that are connected to the factory air intake,
and then remove the mounting bolts that hold the
center factory box in place. (Save hose clamps.)
Step 3. Unplug the small sensor
that is inserted into the center box by turning
it and pulling outward. Leave it in place on the
engine; you will reinsert it in to the round rubber
grommet located on the Ram airbox later.
Step 4. Remove the complete
stock factory air intake system all the way back
to the throttle body, including any O rings.
Step 5. Located in the front
and center of the engine is a 7/16" threaded
bolt sticking out. Depending on what options your
vehicle is equipped with you may temporary have
to remove a bracket to get access to the bolt.
Step 6. Attach the 10"
long L shaped bracket that came with the air box
to the two ¼" holes on the bottom
of the box, with the short L part of the bracket
pointing to the rear of the box using the 2 -1/4"
bolts and lock washers.
Step 7. Attach the 5/8"
black rubber hose provided with the air box to
the vehicles PVC valve hose connection, so that
you can complete the connection once you have
installed the air box in place.
Step 8. Take the large black
* see note: 3-1/4" x 8-1/2" hose provided
with the Ram air box and place one of the hose
clamps from your factory hoses on each end of
the hose. Place a small amount of Vaseline on
the inside the hose on each end. The hose fits
very tightly, so you will need to put a great
deal of pressure on the hose as you push it on
to the throttle bottle using a twisting motion.
Once you have it on turn it so that the stripe
on the hose is faces down for the best appearance.
Tighten the hose clamp at this point.
Step 9. Loosen the 7/16"
mounting bolt with the long threads near the alternator
( for the 5.7 cut the bracket off at the lower
notch to shorten the fork 1”, then line
up the short gooseneck on the air box with the
hose from the throttle body and shove it into
the hose using a wiggling motion till it is in
place. Once it is in place tighten the large hose
clamp, then connect the PVC valve hose to the
5/8" fitting at the rear of the box. Then
push the small sensor into the rubber grommet
in the Ram air box. Not all models have a sensor
on 4.7, if it does, then drill a 5/8” hole
into the 3.5” X 8” black hose in a
position where the wire will reach. When you close
the hood there should be 1/2 " to ¾"
clearance between the air box and the hood.
Step 10. Place some lubrication
around the inside air box rim at the bottom to
seal the K&N filter. Place the filter down
into the box with the notched part down. Push
it all way down till it locks under the small
tabs around the rim.
